Smax 155

Postby Tky22 » Sun Sep 11, 2016 20:18 20

I recently bought my self a 2016 Yamaha smax 155 to replace my ageing 2004 Burgman 400 witch had 41,000 on it when I got it in january of 2016 now has 47,364kms on it still running strong but as my every day transportation and my only transportation it tends to need alot of parts.

I've put the 1st 100km's on it since Friday even through it rained all weekend  but it handles way better then my burgman in the rain and in windy conditions I will have to see how it is in snowy conditions.

It's also one of the smoothest riding scooters I've ever ridden even on some of the worst roads even the acceleratetion on the scooter is smooth in take offs and smooth on deceleration.

The power of the engine feels more like 200cc rather then 155cc

My only complaints with the bike is not enough leg room and the seat is to hard and the seat height is to high but all in all not that bad little scooter for the price.

I'm looking forward to many hopefully trouble free km's ahead! :D

I've had my SMAX since May 2016 and loving it.

I took my SMAX to an automotive upholstery to get the seat shaved down a bit to lower the stand over height.

The only other scooter I've ridden in the Zuma 50 which I didn't really like. All my friends live in the city and I typically travel 25km into the city to ride with them. I typically travel at 90km/h on a secondary highway into the city. Super smooth and stable scooter with lots of power.

Have fun!

Congrats on new SMAX!

Just curious though...if you had a Burgman 400, why did you "downgraded" to 155cc? Instead of getting something like TMAX?

Just picked up my 2016 SMAX this week. I have only put 30 miles on it for the long slow break in. I ordered a rear tire hugger from webike. It is definitely heavier than my Kymco Like. I will need to put some miles on it to let everything loosen up.

Just curious, what's your top speed on the SMAX? Or, what can the bike do comfortably without pushing the engine to hard.

I have read that people have run the SMAX over 75 mph. I don't think that is a speed that can be maintained without causing a little damage, but I could be wrong. I read a post where someone bought one used in another state and rode it home on I-95 at over 70 mph during the trip of 5 or 6 hundred miles. I have run mine up to just over 60 mph for a brief moment. I am still breaking it in.
My goal is to able to cruise comfortably around 55 mph for long periods. I want to cruise it on the back roads, away from the highways.

I've cruised my smax between 65/70mph on a daily commute. The speedometer is not correct after 30mph, it ranges between 5 to 10mph off. When the speedometer reads 80mph, my iPhone 7 plus reads 70mph using speedpro+ app, and Waze app.

Are you sure the I-Phone is more accurate than your speedometer? I've found that the I-Phone app for distance on running is not very accurate.

5 months since op but congrats.

I bought one of the first Smax out in Canada. Was a great bike. Fast for a 155cc bike. Even tho i took it on the highway and it would do
120kph gps it was almost red line. That was my only complaint about the bike. Seemed it always ran at 7k rpm even at slow speed. Not sure
how long the bike would have lasted running like that all the time. Traded it for a Majesty but then Honda brought the NC DCT to Canada for first time.

In April 2016 i picked up a 2016 Honda NC750X DCT and love it. Got a 2016 Honda Civic EX-HS in July. Love that too. But last weekend running errands
downtown i got frustrated, went around block like 6 times trying to find parking. Been thinking about getting a scooter again for downtown errand getting.
parking was so much easier on the small scooter. Can park just about anywhere.

so today i am back. I found a new-old stock 2014 BWS125 for a good price. Bought it today. Pick it up on Saturday. Tho i did entertain the thought of a Smax again.

and on a different note, turning out its going to be a very busy weekend. Friday a new home gym (Inspire) is being delivered. On Saturday i pick up the scooter.
Also on Saturday i get a new TV. Long story, 2013 Panasonc plasma died end January. Got call from store. Extended warranty replacing for new one. (no more plasmas made getting something else)
The one they offered not good enough so i am upgrading. Will decide at the store. Leaning towards the Panasonic 58in DX800 or Samsung 7000 or 8000 series

Yes, I am sure my iPhone 7 Plus GPS speedometer is more accurate than the SMAX 155 speedometer. Has been confirmed with my different cars, and other motorcycles.

I used a Garmin GPS to check the speedometer. Speedo reading 60 mph, GPS showed 55 mph. 65 was 60, 76 was 70. 80 was 74. Others report the Speedo is 5 -10 mph optimistic.
